About the service

What is FuturePostman?

A service that delivers a letter on a day you choose. You write it today, as an email letter or as a paper letter that is printed and posted. The quick start shows the first steps.

Does the recipient need an account?

No. Only you, the sender, need an account. The recipient of an email letter opens it with the link and the access code from the notice email, and a paper letter arrives in the mailbox. See what the recipient sees.

How many years ahead can I schedule a letter?

An email letter can wait up to 1 year on Free, 100 years on Time Master Pro and 100 years on Postmaster. A paper letter can wait up to 5 years, and never longer than your plan schedules. See plans and limits.

Which time zone does the delivery time use?

The time zone of the device you write on. The composer shows its name next to the time. An email letter goes out at that exact moment, wherever you or the recipient are on that day. A paper letter has a posting day, without a time. See how delivery works.

Do I have to do anything on the delivery day?

No. Once you confirm a letter, FuturePostman keeps it and sends it on its day, and you do not have to be signed in. You do not get an email when an email letter is delivered or opened. Its status in Manage Letters changes to Sent and then to Viewed. You get an email only when a letter cannot be delivered.

Can I send a letter to myself?

Yes. Enter your own email address or your own postal address as the recipient. For a letter that waits many years, use an address you expect to keep.

What if a letter cannot be delivered on its day?

An email letter is tried again by itself, up to 5 times over more than a day. If it still fails, it shows Not delivered and you get an email. You can then correct the address on every plan, or send the letter once more with Try again. When a paper letter runs into a problem, you get an email as well. See troubleshooting.

Email letters

Is the text of my letter inside the email the recipient gets?

No. The email is a notice with a private link and an access code. Your text and your files stay on FuturePostman and are shown after the recipient has entered the email address and the code. See what the recipient sees.

Who does the recipient see as the sender?

The notice email is sent from the address of FuturePostman and shows your name. The opened letter shows your name and the primary email address of your account. With Send anonymously neither is shown. Plans that include it: Time Master Pro and Postmaster. See anonymous sending.

Can one email letter go to several people?

Yes, to at most 20 addresses in To, Cc and Bcc together. Each of them gets a notice with a link and an access code of their own and does not see the others. The letter counts once in your month. See recipients and contacts.

Can I change or delete an email letter that is already scheduled?

You can delete it on every plan. Changing a letter that waits for its date needs a plan that includes it. Plans that include it: Postmaster. A letter that failed can be corrected on every plan. The files of a letter cannot be changed afterwards. See edit, reschedule or delete.

How do I know that the recipient has opened the letter?

The status of the letter in Manage Letters changes from Sent to Viewed when a recipient opens it with the access code. For files, the Files page shows views and downloads. See statuses of an email letter.

What happens when the time of the link runs out?

The link stops working and the recipient sees This letter can no longer be opened. You can give it more time: click the letter in Manage Letters and press Extend link. Do that within 30 days after the link expired. Later the link and its files are removed for good. See how delivery works.

Can I send the link and the access code again?

Yes. Click the delivered letter in Manage Letters and press Send the notice again next to the recipient. They get a new link and a new access code, and the earlier ones keep working. Nobody can look up a code that was already sent, not even support. See Send the notice again.

What can I attach to an email letter?

Files, and voice or video recordings made in the composer, on plans that include them. How large and how many depends on the plan. Programs and scripts are refused. See attachments and recordings and limits.

The recipient did not get the email. What now?

Check the status in Manage Letters first. If it is Sent, ask the recipient to look in the spam folder for the subject You have received a message from the past. If the email is lost, send the notice again. All steps are in troubleshooting.

Paper letters

Who prints and posts a paper letter?

The print centre FuturePostman works with. On the posting day FuturePostman hands your letter to the print centre, which prints it, puts it in an envelope and gives it to the postal service. See write a paper letter.

When does a paper letter arrive?

The day you choose is the day the letter is handed over for printing, not the day it arrives. Printing and the post take days after that, and longer abroad. FuturePostman cannot promise an arrival day, so leave room before an important date. See delivery options and countries.

Can I follow a paper letter on its way?

With Tracked delivery you get a tracking number and a confirmation when it is delivered, in countries where the post offers it. A Standard letter is followed until it is posted and not after that. See tracking and statuses.

Can I still change or stop a paper letter?

You can change it on every plan until 1 hour before it is posted. Deleting it gives the credits back as long as it was not printed. A letter that is posted cannot be called back. See change or delete a paper letter.

Can I add photos or files to a paper letter?

No. A paper letter is text only, with at most 6 pages. Files and recordings travel with email letters.

What is printed on a paper letter besides my text?

The address of the recipient, the date, the greeting and the sign-off with your name. Your own postal address is printed under your name unless you switch that off for the letter. A small line at the end says that the letter was scheduled and delivered by FuturePostman. You can preview the PDF before you confirm.

Do I get my credits back if a paper letter fails?

A letter that never reached the print centre can be sent again with Send now without paying twice. A letter the print centre stopped gives its credits back when you delete it. Credits for a letter that was posted are not returned, also when the post could not deliver it. See troubleshooting.

Plans and payment

What can I do without paying?

On Free the number of email letters per month is 5, and a letter can be scheduled up to 1 year ahead. Paper letters are paid with credits on every plan, also on Free. See plans and limits.

Is a letter counted when I schedule it or when it is delivered?

When you schedule it. A letter for ten years from now counts in the month you write it and not again later. If you delete a letter that has not been delivered to anyone in the month you wrote it, its place comes back.

When does my monthly count of email letters start again?

On the first day of each month. The Subscription page shows the date as Next reset. Letters you did not use are not moved to the next month.

Do I need a paid plan to send paper letters?

No. Paper letters are paid with credits on every plan. A letter costs one credit or more, depending on the country and the delivery option, and the composer shows the cost before you confirm. See credits and prices.

How do I cancel my plan?

On the Billing page with Cancel Subscription. The plan runs until the end of the period you paid for, that period is not refunded, and then your account moves to Free. Until that day Resume subscription takes the cancellation back. If the last payment failed, there is no paid period left: you confirm with Cancel now, and the subscription ends at once. See change or cancel your plan.

Where do I find my invoices?

On the Billing page under Invoice History. The page is there as soon as the account has a payment record: after you paid for a plan or credits, or saved company details for invoices. That includes accounts on Free. A credit pack has its invoice there too, and each purchase is listed in the Credit ledger on the Credits tab of Manage Letters. See invoices and payment.

What happens to my letters if a payment fails or my plan ends?

Letters you have already scheduled are still delivered, and your credits stay on your account. New letters follow the limits of Free. See troubleshooting.

Privacy

Is my letter end-to-end encrypted?

No. Letters and files are encrypted with AES-256 before they are stored, but the key is held by the server. FuturePostman decrypts a letter to deliver it and to show it to you and to the recipient. See how your letters are protected.

Who can open an email letter?

Someone who has all three: the private link, the email address the letter was sent to, and the access code from the notice email. After 3 wrong tries with one email address the letter is locked for that address for 15 minutes, and the link stops working when its time runs out.

Is a paper letter as private as an email letter?

No. It has to be printed. On the posting day its text, the name and address of the recipient, your name and, if printed, your address go to the print centre in readable form. From there it travels as ordinary mail.

Does deleting a letter remove it for the recipient too?

Yes for an email letter. When you delete a delivered email letter, its text and its files are gone for the recipient as well, and the link says The sender removed this letter. A paper letter that is posted cannot be taken back. Deleting cannot be undone.

What happens to my letters if I delete my account?

Everything is removed: your letters, contacts and files, and a paid plan is cancelled without a refund. Email letters that are still waiting are not delivered, scheduled paper letters are cancelled, the links of delivered email letters stop working, and unused credits are lost. A paper letter that is already at the print centre is still posted. See your data and account deletion.

Who can read a letter I publish in the public gallery?

Everyone. A letter is public only when you switch on Also publish in the public gallery for it. A moderator reads it first, the recipient and the attachments are never shown, and you decide whether your name appears. See share a letter publicly.
