Set up your If I'm Not Back plan
From the first page to a running plan: choose your rhythm, confirm your phone, write your letters, add trusted people if you like and pick a pass.
3 minutes to read
Open If I'm Not Back from the menu, or from Create. The first page explains what the letters are and what they are not. Tick I understand that these letters are not a will and press Begin.
Your page then shows five steps. You can do them in any order, and nothing is watched or sent until you start.
When
Finish the sentence If I'm not back in, for example a week or a year. That is how often we check in with you. The safety steps below it follow the rhythm you pick, and you can adjust them. See check-ins and safety steps.
How we reach you
Under Mobile phone, press Add your number. Choose your country in the picker, type your number, press Text me a code and type the 6-digit code you get by text message. Then choose When we may text and call you: the days and the hours, on your own clock. A Backup email at another provider is optional, and every reminder goes there too.
Your letters
Press Write a letter. Give it a Title, write Your letter and add Photos, videos and files if you like. Under Who receives it, add each person with their name and choose Email, Text message or both. Press Save letter.
Trusted people
This step is optional. You can add the people we ask before anything is sent, with their name and email. They get an invitation only when you start. Without trusted people, this step is left out and nothing waits for it. See trusted people.
Review and start
Read the overview of who is emailed today and who is not. Choose your pass under Choose your pass. The button at the bottom shows its price. When you press it, a summary opens: Start now? It says what happens next. Nothing starts and nothing is paid until you press the yes button in it. Not yet closes it and changes nothing.
What a plan can hold
- Up to 20 letters, each to up to 10 people
- Files up to 100 MB each, and 2 GB for all files of the plan together
- Up to 5 trusted people
Someone who receives a letter cannot also be a trusted person, and you cannot send a letter to yourself.
See what a recipient sees
Press Preview on a letter. It shows the email or the text message the recipient would get, and the page where they read your letter, exactly as it would look. Nothing is sent.
Changing things later
While all is well, or while check-ins are paused, you can change letters, recipients, trusted people and settings at any time. A new trusted person added to a running plan gets the invitation at once. Once a check-in is missed, changes wait until you check in.
- If I'm Not Back passes and pricesThe four passes, paid once or renewing by themselves: which one fits your rhythm, how to extend or stop it, and what happens when it runs out.
- What recipients of your letters getHow a released letter reaches each person by email or text message, what they see when they open it, and the reminders when they have not.
