Create and set up an event
Every setting of a new event: its kind, name and opening time, a surprise for one person, messages from the guests, the size of the album and the people you ask by email.
5 minutes to read
An event takes a minute to create. Everything is set on one page, the Event album tab of the composer, with a summary of the album beside the settings.
Where to create an event
- Open Events in the menu and press New event. It takes you to the composer with Event album chosen.
- Or open the composer yourself and choose Event album at the top. The settings take the place of the letter.
- Either way you need to be signed in. A free account is enough.
The settings
- What is it?
- Shared album or A surprise for someone. A shared album or a surprise explains the difference. A surprise has two settings of its own.
- Name
- Shown at the top of the guest page, on the poster and on the album.
- Opens
- The day and time the album opens for everyone, on the clock of your device. A new event is set to tomorrow morning. The moment must lie at least a few minutes ahead, and at most as far ahead as the size allows: 7 days for Try it, 92 days for Party, 366 days for Big event and 366 days for Wedding, counted from now.
- Messages from the guests
- Whether guests can also write or record a few words, and when those open. No messages: photos and videos only. Open with the photos: the messages open with the album. Open a year later: they stay sealed until the same day one year after the album opens, for you as well. A new event starts with Open a year later. With messages on, guests can also leave one by phone, and the poster carries the number and the event code to call. An album with Only invited people can add has no phone line, so its messages come only from the people invited, written or recorded on their own page.
- Size of the album
- Try it, Party, Big event or Wedding. Each card lists what the size includes. Album sizes and prices compares them.
- Ask people by email
- Type an address and press Enter, or paste a whole list. Each person gets an email with a link of their own, and their name is on what they add. You can ask up to 300 people for one event.
- Only invited people can add
- Only the people you asked by email can add. The shared link and the code still show the album once it has opened, but nobody can add through them. A surprise starts with this switched on, a shared album with it off.
The invitation emails go out as soon as the event is created. They are in English and give the opening time on your clock: the time zone of your browser when you create or last change the event, named in the email so guests elsewhere can tell.
A surprise for one person
With A surprise for someone, two more settings appear.
- Who is it for?
- The name of the person. Guests see it on their page, and the album and the screen show it when they open.
- How they get it
- Tell them by email: enter Their email, and under Tell them on choose when they hear of it. That moment is never before the album opens: an earlier one moves along with the opening. Until then nothing is sent to them. I will show it myself: nothing is sent, and you open the album on a screen or give them the link.
Once the person has been told, who the surprise is for, how they get it and Only invited people can add can no longer change.
Create the event
Confirm
For a free album the button at the bottom says Create event. For a larger one it says Continue to payment, followed by the price.
Pay for a larger album
The payment is one payment in US dollars, on a Stripe payment page. It is listed with your other payments, see invoices and payment.
Go on from the event page
You land on the page of the event, with the code, the link and the poster. Invite guests and add photos goes on from there.
There is a limit to how many free albums one account can have open at the same time. When you reach it, the app asks you to delete one or to choose a paid album.
Change an event later
Open Events and press Manage on the event. Its page shows how much has come in and what can still change.
| Setting | When it can change |
|---|---|
| Name | At any time, under Name and date. |
| Opening time and messages | While the album is sealed, under Name and date. Once it has opened the page says The album has opened, so its date can no longer change. |
| Kind, and who a surprise is for | At any time, under Name and date. For a surprise, until its person has been told by email. |
| People you asked | At any time, under People you asked: Ask more people, Send again, Copy their link, or Remove, which stops their link. What a removed person added stays in the album. |
| Size | While the album is sealed or open, under A larger album. You pay the difference to the size you have. |
Open the album early
While the album is sealed, Open the album now opens it at once for everyone with the link. Confirm with Open now. This cannot be undone. Messages keep their distance to the photos: with Open a year later they open one year after that moment.
Delete event at the bottom of the page removes the event and everything in it. Delete an event explains what goes with it.
