Send an email letter without showing your name
Send anonymously hides your name and email address from the recipient of an email letter. What it hides, what it does not hide, and which plans include it.
3 minutes to read
With Send anonymously the recipient is not shown who wrote the letter, neither in the notice email nor on the page where they read it. It exists for email letters only, and it needs a plan that includes it. Plans that include it: Time Master Pro and Postmaster.

Write the letter
Open the composer and write your email letter as usual.
Open More options

Switch on Send anonymously
The first time you do this in a browser, the dialog Rules for sending anonymously opens. Read the rules and press I accept these rules. Cancel leaves the switch off.

| Feature | Free | Time Master Pro | Postmaster |

On a plan without anonymous sending the switch cannot be turned on. The line under it reads Not included in your plan. See plans and leads to the plans page.
What the recipient sees
| Where | Normal letter | Anonymous letter |
|---|---|---|
| From in the notice email | Your first and last name from your profile | Anonymous Sender |
| From in the opened letter | Your name and the email address of your account | "Someone who stays anonymous", and no address |
Both kinds of notice come from a FuturePostman address, never from your own mailbox. The whole route of the recipient is described in What your recipient sees.
What it does not hide
- Anything you write yourself: your name in the text, a signature, a subject that gives you away
- The names of the attached files. They are listed in the notice email
- What the files contain: your voice or face in a recording, a name inside a document, details stored in a photo
- When you wrote the letter. The opened letter shows the day and time under Written, and a date you set yourself under Date on the letter
- That the letter was delivered by FuturePostman
- Who you are towards FuturePostman. The letter stays in your account, and your own Manage Letters lists it with Anonymous Sender under From
Good to know
- You choose it for each letter. A new letter starts with the switch off
- It cannot be changed after the letter is scheduled, because the edit page has no such switch. To change it, delete the letter and write it again. See Edit, reschedule or delete an email letter
- A letter scheduled as anonymous is delivered as anonymous, also when your plan has changed in the meantime
- The recipient sees no address to answer to. If you want an answer, say in the letter how to reach you
- Paper letters cannot be sent anonymously. Your name is printed under the sign-off. See Paper letters
The public gallery has its own switch
Also publish in the public gallery comes with a name setting of its own, Hide my name, which is on unless you turn it off. It decides what readers of the gallery see. It has nothing to do with what the recipient sees, and it needs no special plan.
- Send anonymously on and Hide my name off: the recipient is not told who you are, but the name you type under Name to show is public next to the letter. If you leave that field empty, the gallery signs the letter as Anonymous, and the composer says so
- Send anonymously off and Hide my name on: the recipient sees your name, and the gallery signs the letter as Anonymous
- The gallery shows only the name you type for it, never the name from your profile. It never shows the recipient or the files
The name in the gallery is explained in Sign with a name or stay anonymous.
- What your recipient sees and how they open the letterThe notice email, the unlock page, reading the letter and getting its files, step by step. You can pass this page on to a recipient who is stuck.
- Share a letter in the public galleryPublish an email letter for anyone to read, signed with a name you choose or anonymously, and manage it afterwards on My public letters.
- Plans and what each limit meansWhat each plan includes, how the monthly limits are counted and what happens when you reach one.
