API and RSS feed

FuturePostman has no public API. What exists today is an RSS feed of the public letters, and a way to tell us what you need.

2 minutes to read

What you can use today

  • Everything is done in the web app: you write and schedule in the composer and follow your letters under Manage Letters
  • The letters of the public gallery can be read by other software through an RSS feed. It is the only output of FuturePostman that is made for software
  • Nothing else is open to outside software. Private letters, their status, your contacts and your files can only be reached by signing in to the app

The RSS feed of public letters

The feed holds letters that their writers chose to share in the public gallery. Open the feed directly, or open the Public Letters page and choose RSS feed. Its address is the address of the site followed by /letters/rss. Any feed reader can subscribe to it.

What is in it
The 30 newest letters of the gallery, newest first. Each entry has the title of the letter, a link to its page in the gallery, the day it was published and a short excerpt from the start of the text.
Languages
There is one feed for each language of the site, for example /de/letters/rss. The letters are the same in all of them. The name of the feed and the links follow the language of the address.
How fresh it is
The feed may be up to 5 minutes behind the gallery.
What is not in it
Letters that are not public, the whole text of a letter, comments and likes, and anything about your own account. The feed can only be read. Nothing can be sent or changed through it.

How a letter gets into the gallery, and how to take it out again, is explained in Share a letter in the public gallery.

Tell us what you need

If an API or a connection to another tool matters for your work, write to us through the contact form and choose Feedback under What is it about?. A request is not a promise and has no date, but it tells us what people need.

  • What you want to automate, for example scheduling letters from your own system
  • Whether it is about email letters, paper letters or both
  • Roughly how many letters a month
  • Which software should talk to FuturePostman
