Notifications
The bell shows what happened to your letters, albums and account. A few things also come by email. You choose both under Your account, Notifications.
3 minutes to read
The bell
The bell in the top bar shows what happened to your letters, albums and account: a recipient opened a letter, a letter was delivered or posted, guests added photos to an album, a book is on its way, a friend signed up through your link. A number on the bell counts what is new.
- The bell updates by itself while the app is open. You do not need to reload the page.
- On a computer it opens as a small panel under the bell. On a phone it opens as a sheet from the bottom of the screen.
- Opening it marks everything as read.
- Press a notice to go to the letter, album or page it is about.
- Many small things become one notice: what guests add to an album is one notice per album per day with a count, and likes and comments on a public letter are one notice per letter per day.
Only what other people did, or what happened on its day, is a notice. What you just did yourself, such as scheduling a letter or buying credits, is not.
What comes by email
Only the few things worth an email when you are not in the app:
- A letter delivered or posted after waiting
- A printed book on its way
- A credit earned through a friend's first letter
- Your album opening, and a reminder a week before it closes
- The gallery's decision about a public letter
You never get more than three of these emails a day. After the third, the rest of the day shows in the bell only. You never get two emails about the same thing.
These are in the bell only, never by email: a recipient opening a letter, likes and comments on a public letter, guests adding to an album, a friend signing up through your link, and a book preview ready to look at.
The notice emails are written in English. The pages they open are in the language you use the app in.
Choose what you get
Open Your account, Notifications, or press Notification settings in the bell. Each switch is saved the moment you change it.
- Show the bell
- Off hides the bell and its number. Notices are still kept, so when you turn it back on you see what happened in the meantime.
- Email me about these
- Off stops every notice email at once, except the ones that always reach you.
- In the app
- Per group: whether its notices show in the bell.
- By email
- Per group: whether its emails come. For Account and security it says Always: those emails cannot be switched off.
| Group | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Your letters | Opened, delivered or posted, the gallery's decision, likes and comments |
| Albums and books | Guests adding to an album, the album opening and closing, a book ready or on its way |
| Credits and invitations | A friend signing up through your link, a credit earned |
| Account and security | A sign-in from a new browser, a password or address change |
An email about a problem with a letter or a book order reaches you whatever the switches say.
Turn emails off from an email
At the bottom of every notice email that can be switched off is the link Do not receive these notifications. It opens a page that asks Stop these emails?. Press Do not send me these emails and the emails of that group stop. The bell keeps showing them.
- Many mail apps also show their own unsubscribe button at the top of the email. It does the same in one press.
- The same page turns the emails back on with Turn these emails back on, and so does the switch under Your account, Notifications.
- Emails about a problem with a letter or your account still reach you.
- In the appYour account, NotificationsChoose what you hear about.
- Set up your account and profileSign up, set the name your recipients see, add the postal address a paper letter needs, change your email address and password, and protect your sign-in.
- Invite a friendShare your invitation link. When a friend signs up through it and schedules a first letter, you both get one letter credit.
- What the status of an email letter meansEvery status an email letter can show in Manage Letters, what happens behind it, and what you can still do with the letter in each one.
