Choose standard or tracked delivery and a country

Standard and tracked delivery for paper letters, how the composer shows what a destination country offers, and what the app does and does not tell you about delivery time.

4 minutes to read

A paper letter goes by standard or by tracked delivery. What you can choose and what it costs depends on the country of the recipient. The composer asks the print centre and shows the answer as soon as you pick the country.

The two options

Standard

Ordinary mail, no tracking

Tracked

Tracking number and delivery confirmation

Standard
Ordinary mail. There is no tracking number and no confirmation that the letter arrived. On the page of the letter the journey ends at Posted.
Tracked
The letter gets a tracking number and the post confirms the delivery. The page of the letter has a fifth step, Delivered, and shows the tracking number when the print centre provides one. FuturePostman only offers tracked delivery that needs no signature from the recipient.

How the composer shows it

  1. Pick the country

In the composer, open the address fields under To and choose the Country of the recipient.

  2. Read the Delivery section

The Delivery panel on the right shows Standard and Tracked, each with its price in credits, shortened to cr. Until a country is chosen, the panel says Choose the country to see the price.

  3. Select one

Standard is selected until you choose Tracked. The price of the selected option is the price of the letter.

Under Tracked you seeWhat it means
Checking availability...The composer is asking the print centre. Wait a moment.
Tracking number and delivery confirmation and a priceTracked delivery exists for this country. You can select it.
A number of days after that textThe delivery time the print centre states for tracked delivery to this country.
Not available for this countryThere is no tracked delivery to this country. The option cannot be selected and the letter goes by standard delivery.
  • If you selected Tracked and then change to a country without it, the composer goes back to Standard. The choice is checked again when you confirm, so a tracked letter is never sold for a country without tracked delivery.
  • You do not need credits to look. Pick a country in the composer to see its options and prices before you write anything.
  • When a country is chosen and neither option shows a price, the print centre gave none and the letter cannot be sent at that moment. See credits and prices.

Countries

  • You can send to the countries in the Country list of the composer. Type in the list to search. A country that is not in the list cannot be chosen.
  • The list is the same on every plan.
  • The country cannot be changed after the letter is paid, because the postage was paid for that country.

Delivery time

You choose the posting day, not the day of arrival.

  1. Hand-over

On the posting day, at 12:00 UTC, FuturePostman hands the letter to the print centre. With Now it is handed over within the hour.

  2. Check and print

The print centre checks the letter, prints it and puts it in an envelope.

  3. Post

The print centre gives the letter to the postal service, which delivers it.

The app shows a number of days only where the print centre states one: next to Tracked in the composer and in the review dialog. For Standard it shows no number of days. Under the posting day the composer says that delivery takes a few days from there. That is a general remark, not a figure for your country.

Which one to choose

  • Choose Tracked when you need to know that the letter arrived. Only a tracked letter ever shows Delivered
  • Compare the two prices in the composer before you decide. With Standard the last step you see is Posted, and nothing confirms the arrival
  • With either option, a letter that the post reports as returned shows Returned. A posted standard letter is checked for that for 45 days after the hand-over
