Change the language, the theme and the sidebar
Choose the language of FuturePostman, switch between the light and the dark theme, and find your way around the sidebar on a computer and on a phone.
4 minutes to read
FuturePostman speaks 12 languages: English, Español, Français, Deutsch, 中文, 日本語, Русский, Português, Italiano, 한국어, Polski, and Nederlands. You do not need an account to change the language or the theme. Both choices are kept in your browser, not in your account.
Change the language
Find the language menu
It is in the bar at the top of every page and shows the name of the current language, for example English.
Pick a language
The page loads again in that language. On a public page you are also moved to the address of that language.
How the language is chosen
Public pages and signed-in pages follow different rules.
| Pages | What decides the language |
|---|---|
| Public pages: home, pricing, the help centre, public letters, contact, support, terms and privacy | The address. A plain address such as /pricing is English. Every other language has its code in front, for example /de/pricing. |
| Everything else: the dashboard, the composer, settings, sign-in, and the page where a recipient opens a letter | The language you picked last in this browser. If you never picked one, English. |
- The language of your browser or device is not used. A first visit to a plain address is in English.
- A link to a public page shows the same language to everyone who opens it. To share a page in German, share the address that starts with
/de. - Your choice is remembered in this browser for one year. On another device, in another browser, or after you clear the cookies of the site, the signed-in pages are in English again until you choose.
- Back to Home in the sidebar opens the home page in the language you are using.
What is not translated
- Your own text. A letter is delivered exactly as you wrote it.
- The notice email a recipient gets about an email letter. It is always in English. The page where they open the letter follows the language the recipient picks there.
- Emails FuturePostman sends to you, for example when a letter cannot be delivered or a payment fails. The page such an email links to is in your language.
- On a paper letter: the printed date is written the English way, the greeting and the sign-off start as
Dearwith the first name andSincerely,, and a small line at the foot of the page that names FuturePostman is in English. You can change the greeting and the sign-off in the composer, not the date format or the foot line. - Parts of the sign-up and sign-in forms. Their titles, field names and buttons are translated. Later steps and error messages can appear in English.
- A help article that has no translation yet is shown in English, with a note saying so.
Dates and times
- Dates are written the way the chosen language writes them.
- Times are shown in the time zone of your device. There is no time zone setting in FuturePostman.
- In the composer, the delivery time of an email letter has the name of the time zone next to it. That is the moment the letter goes out, wherever you are on that day.
- The notice email tells the recipient until when the link works. That time is given in UTC.
Light and dark theme
Open the theme menu
Press the button with the sun or the moon in the bar at the top. It is there on every signed-in page and in the help centre.
Choose
Light, Dark or System. System follows the setting of your device and is what you start with.
- The choice is kept in this browser and applies to the whole site. The home page and the other public pages have no theme button of their own. They use the choice you made, or the setting of your device.
- In the composer, the page of a paper letter stays light in the dark theme, because it shows the printed sheet.
- The theme changes nothing for your recipients. The notice email does not follow it.
The sidebar
On a computer the signed-in pages have a sidebar on the left. The bar at the top shows the name of the page you are on, with the same words.
| Entry | Group | What it opens |
|---|---|---|
| Dashboard | Overview | The letters that leave next, your plan and what you have used of it |
| Compose | Letters | The composer, for email and paper letters |
| Manage Letters | Letters | All your letters with their status, and your credits |
| My public letters | Letters | The letters you published in the public gallery |
| Contacts | Data | The people you write to |
| Files | Data | The files you sent with your letters |
| Settings | Account | Name, address, email addresses, password and email layouts |
| Subscription | Account | Your plan and the plans you can change to |
| Billing | Account | Invoices, payment method and cancellation. The entry appears once you have paid for a plan or a credit pack, or saved company details for invoices |
